Pantry Love

I do not understand how people function without a pantry. My family had a fairly spacious pantry growing up, and it was so convenient. It wasn't until college that I realized how much of a luxury that was. Putting food and dishes away in the cabinets? Weird. So much stuff, so little space...

Here are some inspiration photos thanks to Pinterest...

Anywho, when planning our house I knew I wanted a big pantry. My parents' pantry is probably 3' x 5', but I wanted to shoot for something a little bigger. I landed a space that is probably 8' x 5'!! I. Was. Jacked.

But it doesn't matter if you have the space if you don't plan it right. Andy suggested wire shelving. My response? Stupid. Dumb. Not happening. Wire shelves have no place in my house. Anywhere.

Rant over.

My dad actually made new pantry shelves recently out of wood. They are uber functional and will last a looong time, very sturdy. So, we modeled the shelves from that and had our contractor build them.

The laminate wood we used for the shelves is white. For design purposes, we painted the walls a dark gray color. The contrast turned out really well. Not only is it functional, but it's pretty. Here is the after :)

We couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Currently the space is full. Yep. Everything does have a place, but I'm not loving the way it looks. Eventually I will buy some bins to keep things more uniform, but that's not high on my list of priorities. Stay tuned!
